Spotify has a feature called Concerts Near You. It shows fans a playlist of songs from artists playing shows close to them. If you have ever wondered why you never show up there, this is why, and how to fix it.
Where Spotify actually gets this information
Spotify does not know about your shows automatically. It pulls concert data from ticketing partners it works with, including AXS, DICE, Eventbrite, and Ticketmaster. If your show is not listed with one of these, Spotify has no way to know it is happening.
For most independent artists, the easiest path in is a free tool called Bandsintown for Artists. Once you claim your free account and add your Spotify artist profile link to it, Spotify can pull your show information from there.
How the playlist actually works for fans
This is not a static list. It updates every Wednesday, and it shows about 30 songs, personalized to that specific listener, from artists playing near them. Spotify figures out someone's location using GPS when it is available, and falls back to their general internet location if not.
The part almost nobody knows
Showing up in the general Concerts Near You feed is step one. But getting an actual push notification on someone's phone about your show needs one more thing: that person has to already follow you, and they need to have turned on "Artist Alerts" inside the Live Events section of the app. It does not happen automatically just because someone follows you.
What to actually do this week
- Claim your free Bandsintown for Artists account if you have not already
- Add your Spotify artist profile link inside it
- List every upcoming show there, even small local ones
- Remind your fans, when you post about a show, to turn on notifications for you in Spotify, not just follow you
This feature rewards artists who do the boring setup work early. Most independent artists never claim their Bandsintown account, which means most independent artists are invisible in a feature built specifically to help fans find local shows.
